Travails of a Bibliophile

Powerbooks has its weirdest sale yet. I'm not saying it doesn't work, it's just strenuous on the part of the consumer.

For one thing, it's advertised that there's a sale on certain times of the day (10 am - 12 pm, 3 pm - 5 pm). What is this, a fast food chain? Oh, and it only applies from Monday to Thursday (so I guess weekends are really peak hours for anyone).

Of course it's not even a general sale of a bargain bin sale. It's a sale on specific authors, series, or genre (i.e. VC Andrews, Dune, TV-Movie Tie-in respectively).

Honestly, all of this wouldn't be so bad, especially considering that the discount is 30% off. But apparently, not everyone can avail of this. First, you need coupons! And in order to obtain one batch of coupons, you need to spend increments of P500. And since this applies only for the month of April, you need to spend money first (this month) to get discounts on further purchases (applicable only until the end of the month).

It's a discount with several specific conditions (day, specific hour, specific books) and a prerequisite (purchase of P500 previously during the month, at least). Yes, it's a money-churning gimmick for Powerbooks. But woe to the bibliophile (some of which will get suckered into it, myself included).
